Pretty purple butterflies for a Gympie wedding cake

The cake that I am featuring today was made for a Gympie wedding in January a few years ago. It was a lovely one to create, and I have enjoyed thinking back on it as I put together this post. I am really excited to use this design as the inspiration for one of my Autumn wedding cakes! It will be a little bit different from the cake below, but still oh so beautiful. I cannot wait to create it for my customer.

I delivered today’s featured cake to the Phoenix Hotel on what was a very hot Summer’s day. Graceful and beautiful, a mass of edible purple butterflies was arranged over the entire cake. I love the little sparkle as the light captures the glitter on the top butterfly’s wings!

What I enjoyed so much about this cake was lack of uniformity with the butterflies. I loved seeing this cake come together with the use of different shades of purple, different sizes and shapes, and having either glittering wings or a matte finish for each butterfly. They were placed as if they had just fluttered in and found their own special spot on the cake to rest.

You can see in the photograph that one blue dragonfly also made its way onto the cake. This was a special request to represent the groom, and I love the personal touch that it added to this couple’s wedding cake.

I cannot wait to create another beautiful butterfly-covered wedding cake later this year! You don’t have to wait until then to see more of my cakes, though. Follow me on Facebook or enjoy some of my recent blog posts to see a some of my recent work.
