I know I’ve said it many times before, but I just love square cakes. Don’t get me wrong – I also love rounds, hexagons, hearts, teardrops – all other shaped cakes! Squares though, are most certainly my favourite shape to work with.
Let’s take a look at one of my favourite square cakes from a few years ago…
This cake was made for a Maleny wedding reception held at Maleny Manor in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Each tier was topped with a pearl-finished fondant ‘lid’ to create a stacked box effect.
Touches of black created an elegant contrast with the white fondant covering and decorations. White-on-white embossing on each tier added a bit of texture to the cake, without standing out too much and overwhelming the design.
Lovely, white lisianthus icing flowers added the final touch, bringing the cake to life with their placement around each of the square tiers.
Each of the three tiers were made in my delicious dark chocolate mud cake, and covered with white chocolate fondant.
While round wedding cakes are still the most popular shapes at present, I have been noticing a little bit of a trend toward more square shaped cakes. Even hexagonal tiers are popping up here and there! No matter what the shape, it is always a pleasure to create special cakes for my customers and to bring their cake dreams to life. Thanks for reading!
